On a positive note regarding events so far in 2020, remote working is finally here to stay. It's been proven to be not only a method of working that is a reliable "fallback", but has also demonstrated that it can improve productivity.
Commuting is a non-productive expense that should be removed, where possible to do so.
The additional benefit is that being remote-first opens up a much wider talent pool from which to recruit special skills, previously limited by "must reside within xxxx distance of yyyy".
Companies whose management embrace this evolution will be ahead of the curve - but please, no more job adverts that state "100% work from home, meetings once a week in the London office"- that's just wasting everyone's time.
