Another potentially controversial technical opinion based on experience:
Don't do "multi-cloud" - in the vast majority of cases, the only people who win are consultancies, and cloud providers.
It's another one of those "sounds legit" approaches, as per "use any tech stack in a microservice" trends that is now evaporating (apart from contracts to undo that mess).
I have seen CTO's base policy on paid-for briefings from Gartner etc, about how it is so amazingly popular to do multi-cloud, but I have never seen it actually be beneficial apart from those who are billing by the day.
I have, however, had direct experience of companies who have become paralysed by a CTO unable to make a decision, as they only follow "paid-for industry opinions", instead of actual experience of implementation.
